Is Website Design or Development Important?

Website design and development are both important steps to building a website. They can be confusing, however, as there is a lot of overlap between the two terms. In this blog post, we will discuss what each term means and how they relate to one another. This way you'll know which service you need for your business!
Let's start.
Website Design
- Website design is the process of planning your website. This includes decisions like what colors you want to use, fonts that match your brand, and how many pages will be included on the site. The website designer helps decide each aspect of this plan so it all works together cohesively. Once a plan for the look of the site has been made, the designer will make it come to life.
- This means they create a rough draft of how each page should look and decide on elements like headers, footers, menus, images..etc. The plan for what goes in these parts is decided during step one with input from you as well! Once this is ready a developer uses this to build the site.
- This means that instead of creating a draft, they bring your plan into reality by coding it in HTML and CSS. Once this is ready you can upload it to an online server so people can view your website! The developer also includes any content you want on the pages like images or text..etc.
Website Development
- Website development is the process of actually building your website. This includes coding in HTML and CSS, adding content like text or images, and connecting everything to an online server so people can view it on a web browser! In other words, this step involves turning your plan from design into reality using technology. While both steps are important, website development is the more technical aspect of building a website.
- Some developers will say that they do both design and development, but this isn't always true! In fact, some designers only offer to create a draft for your site instead of actually coding it into reality as we described above. If you want an example of what this looks like check out our portfolio page!
Simple summary:
Designer: Make a plan for your website. Decides on colors, fonts, and other elements to make the site cohesive. Helps you decide what should be included in each part of the site (header footer menus ..etc)
Developer: Builds off this design by coding it into HTML/CSS so people can view it. Adds content like images or text. Connects everything to an online server so people can view it on a web browser.
